Iberclear, Spain’s central securities depository and a subsidiary of BME, has renewed its mandate to manage the National Registry for Greenhouse Gas Emission Allowances (Renade) until 2026, with the possibility of an extension to 2029. This decision solidifies Iberclear’s role in supporting the Spanish section of the European Union Registry under the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS), the Kyoto Protocol, and the Paris Agreement, reports BME in a press release.

Initially entrusted with Renade in 2004, Iberclear’s continued stewardship was confirmed by Spain’s Ministry for Ecological Transition through its Office for Climate Change. Following an evaluation of the technical and operational criteria required for this critical function, the contract was formalised in December 2024 and announced in the Official State Gazette (BOE) on January 20, 2025.

RENADE plays a central role in tracking and updating the ownership and control of greenhouse gas emission allowances for Spanish companies. It ensures transparency and supports industrial facilities in meeting their annual obligations to transfer allowances to the State.
