Management consultant Oliver Wyman predicts that custody revenues will drop by 10–15 percent in 2020, Global Custodian reports.

It is the reduction in asset values that weighs on the corresponding revenues for custodians. Also, there is commercial pressure on services that have recently been introduced.

While asset managers have continuously been pressing for lower fees, the custody industry enjoyed some relief over recent years from a growth in the value of the assets they were guarding, and an inflow of capital to emerging markets in Asia, the Global Custodian article describes. During 2019 this could not maintain total revenue growth in custody, however, but this fell by 5 percent.
