The progress and promise (or threat?) of artificial intelligence will be covered in a session with futurist Mats Lewan on 30 March, the second day of PostTrade 360° Stockholm. As a teaser for the conference, read this article – our publication’s first one to be co-authored by a non-human.

It just takes a few seconds, upon posting the question why one should read PostTrade 360°, before the already-famous ChatGPT engine starts typing out its response at rapid speed on its website:

“PostTrade 360 is a publication that covers the global post-trade industry, which includes everything from clearing to settlement to custody and collateral management,” it proclaims, before detailing its arguments to read us under four bullet points: 1. Stay informed, 2. Gain insights, 3. Network, and 4. Access to data.

An AI application among many

In post-trade processing such as at the back office of an asset manager or trading firm, artificial intelligence might be more efficiently applied in applications like data extraction or error spotting. For the purposes of this news desk, however, the capability of aggregating generalised views out there, into definite-sounding truths in plain English, is just spot-on. The artificial intelligence of ChatGPT has been developed based on data before 2021. It is thus not a current search engine, and not specifically aware that Mats Lewan will be speaking at the event. Even so, my new digital colleague has the confidence to make firm statements about the general benefits you could expect when you meet up.

I probably couldn’t have said it better myself.

Admittedly, it is with mixed feelings that I – a professional journalist since 30 years and this news site’s editor since its early days in 2019 – conclude that I probably couldn’t have said it better myself.
