Euroclear has appointed a new chief executive officer to succeed Philippe Laurensy, who will retire in mid-2027 after 40 years with the firm.
Following an onboarding period beginning in September, James Chang will formally take over as CEO of Asia Pacific on 1 December. Based in Hong Kong, Chang will lead Euroclear’s strategy across the region and report directly to Valérie Urbain, chief executive officer of the Euroclear group.
Chang joins from PwC, where he spent two decades in Greater China, leading the firm’s Consulting organisation before heading its Financial Services practice.
Laurensy took up his current role as APAC CEO in mid-September 2024, relocating from Brussels to Hong Kong. Before that, he served as Head of Product, Strategy & Innovation for the Euroclear group, and prior to that led Euroclear’s Commercial division, overseeing sales, marketing and client relationships across the group.
To ensure a smooth and orderly handover, Laurensy will remain as an adviser to Chang until his retirement.
