HSBC has completed its first tokenised structured note issuance for institutional investors, marking a new step in the bank’s digital‑asset strategy.
The pilot involved U.S. dollar‑denominated structured notes issued via a private placement in Hong Kong. The transaction was supported by Marketnode, the Asia‑Pacific digital market‑infrastructure operator that acted as both tokenisation agent and digital paying agent. Marketnode, established in 2021, is jointly owned by Singapore Exchange, Temasek, Euroclear and HSBC, and has recently worked on projects including a tokenised money‑market fund in Singapore.
By issuing the notes directly on blockchain, Marketnode enabled digital issuance and managed payment flows between HSBC and the investor.
