The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) has converted assets held at The Depository Trust Company (DTC) into tokens and used them in real production trades—a milestone paving the way for the DTCC Tokenization Service to launch in October 2026.
More than 30 firms spanning TradFi and digital-asset markets took part. Conversions ran on LFDT’s Besu (DTCC’s private network) and Canton (a public network), reflecting DTCC’s multi-chain strategy for resiliency, scalability and choice.
The service enables DTC-held securities to be issued as tokenised “digital twins” and delivered to DTC Participant wallets, with the option to convert between traditional and tokenised form.
Over several hours in a live DTC production environment, the event ran transactions across asset classes including collateral pledges, securities lending, U.S. Treasury/repo DVP, equity DVP, equity delivery-versus-delivery, equity token transfer, and CCP margin workflows. The trades were chosen to reflect real-world use cases and to test whether the Tokenization Service matches traditional infrastructure on resiliency, integrity, protections and operational rigour.
