The PostTrade 360° team will be embarking on a journey across the pond next week. The occasion? Sibos 2023. The annual financial services conference is happening this year in Toronto, Canada from 18 to 21 September. We will be there to catch all the action and report back. Read on for some serious name-dropping.

Armed with a roving video camera – a first for us – we will endeavour to create immersive coverage of the conference. Imagine you are there with us, surrounded by the industry buzz, and rubbing shoulders with names that we have been accustomed to seeing only as text. We hope to bring you a series of video interviews with senior members of the industry, including several of these mentioned below – and more! Our attention will be on current top-of-mind topics in the post trade space, such as the shift to T+1, DLT transformation, or data analytics. Here is a small pick from the rich agenda.

Setting the stage

Michele Hillery, managing director of DTCC, will share insights at the session titled “Unlocking the full potential of the Unique Transaction Identifier (UTI) in securities”. Moderating it will be Virginie O’Shea of Firebrand Research, who will also be making appearances at two other sessions, including “Tokenisation: The future of securities or just a digital dream?”

Alex Dockx, head of Industry Development for Custody, Securities Services at JP Morgan, and Anna Kulik, secretary general of the European Central Securities Depositories Association (ECSDA), will share the stage in a session titled “Can securities market infrastructures march in step to ISO 20022?”. (With messaging facilitator Swift being the organiser of Sibos, a number of sessions will be centred around the new message standard.) Clearstream CEO Stephanie Eckermann will join a panel to speak on “The future of securities”.

Alex Dockx’s JP Morgan team mate Emma Johnson, executive director, Global Custody Industry and Regulatory Developments will get on stage for two sessions, one being a “Meet the experts” session by BNP Paribas, “All for T+1 and T+1 for all?”.

Marion Leslie, head of Financial Information and executive board member of SIX will be on another stage sharing her knowledge in “Making the most of post-trade data: Cloud, AI and real-time analyst”.

Friendly competition

The third day will mark the finals of the Discover Perfect Pitch competition. Now in its fourth year, this event is a chance for fintech firms from around the globe to pitch their products and services to venture capitalists and banks – giving a hint of the innovation that might just be coming our way.

The final day will see more friendly competition, in the form of Swift Hackathon 2023. This year’s theme, “Unleashing innovation for a sustainable future”, will see participants explore solutions for generating value from ESG and ESG compliance.

Starting as a banking operations seminar in 1978, Sibos now lays claim to being “the global financial services event of the year”. This year’s edition will see more than 180 exhibitors and thousands of participants turn up at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre (MTCC) to explore the theme “Collaborative finance in a fragmented world”. If you like this teaser of what we have in store, join us for four days of coverage, direct from the event.
