Standard Chartered has appointed Ying Ying Tan as global head of securities services and global head of digital assets, both effective immediately.
In securities services, Tan will lead strategy and growth across custody, fund services, clearing and related infrastructure. She succeeds Margaret Harwood-Jones, who has become CEO, UK & Europe.
In digital assets, she will drive the bank’s agenda across custody, tokenisation, digital asset trading, financing and ecosystem partnerships. Based in Singapore, Tan continues to report to Ole Matthiessen, global head of transaction services and digital assets.
Rene Michau, who helped build the bank’s digital assets franchise, has moved into a senior advisory role reporting to Matthiessen. He will work closely with Tan and remains a member of the group’s Digital Assets Steering Committee.
The bank said the combined role reflects the growing convergence of traditional and digital finance. Its digital assets capabilities already span custody, tokenised deposits, trading and tokenised money market funds.
Matthiessen said Tan had “played a pivotal role in building and commercialising our digital assets custody capabilities”.
Tan joined Standard Chartered in 2017 and most recently served as global head of securities services product management and chief operating officer for the business. She previously held regional and global roles at Deutsche Bank in securities services, product management and transaction banking.
“The boundaries between traditional and digital finance are becoming increasingly interconnected, creating new opportunities for clients and the industry,” said Tan.
